Die Fremden

Soundscapes for De Vreemden / Die Fremden (The Strangers), directed by Johan Simons.
NTGent / Ruhrtriennale / ASKO Schoenberg Ensemble 2016

Materials from works by György Ligeti en Mauricio Kagel were used to create soundscapes, played on 6 loudspeakers around the stage in the parts of the performance where the orchestra isn’t playing. The production was premiered at the Ruhrtriennale, in a hall measuring 200 meters from front to back that used to be the realm of a large coal-mixing machine, in the small German industry town of Marl. The performance was repeated in a similar hall at Ghent (Floraliënhal), and a theatrical version was brought to Brussels.
